Cleveland Rocks
The city of Cleveland gets a lot of grief about inefficiencies and poor response to issues and problems in the city. Things couldn’t be further from that with me after this week. Yesterday the city cleaned up the abandoned house next to me and the yard surrounding it. Workers mowed the lawn, cut down large weeds and shrubs, and piled up garbage from the yard to be picked up. They made...

Cedar Point Musings
I made my first Cedar Point visit of the season today and came up with the following random thoughts throughout the day: - I should have put more sunscreen on my face. - While I don’t agree with charging for legal line jumping Fast Lane and snob Preferred Parking, there must be a demand for it or otherwise the park wouldn’t be offering them. - The park looked really good today - I...

Burning Breakfast
I am still getting used to cooking with gas again. I have had electric ranges all of my life, except for the two years I was in the apartment up at Toledo. I managed to scorch my eggs this morning because I stepped away to get the bread in the toaster and grab a plate and silverware. I am used waiting for the pan to heat up slowly with the electric coils. Gas flames heat up and cool down...

House Progress
I have made good progress on getting things settled in at the new house. A big thank you has to go out to my mom and dad for all of their help. They helped pack up things at the apartment, clean and prep the house, load and unload the truck, and unpack and setup here at the house. I also want to thank my brother, sister, and niece for all of their help moving and unpacking yesterday. My...

House Update
All of my closing documentation transferred successfully today, so I have officially closed on a house in the Ohio City neighborhood of Cleveland. I have been renting an apartment in Ohio City for the past two years, so the move will not be very far. I went to high school in the neighborhood and really fell in love with the place when I lived down here while volunteering at the high school...

3rd Shift
I’m working 3rd shift Monday into Tuesday to help cover a hole that developed in the schedule this past week. I was asked/volunteered to do it because it would avoid major disruptions to the day shift schedule for the week. I really don’t mind because it will give me a chance to see how some automation changes have affected the overnight shift work, and it will allow me to see if...

Cold
This cold has kicked my ass this week. It started cropping up last week right before I came back from Boston. I thought it would have lasted through last weekend and then clear up Monday or Tuesday. Instead it decided to migrate into my chest and make it quite difficult to get a decent night’s rest. I was feeling pretty good during the day yesterday, but last night was not enjoyable. ...

Productive
I got a much needed haircut this morning with a new barber at the barber shop I frequent. He took his time and did a great job. Sometimes I feel like they are just trying to get me in-and-out and on to the next person, but not with Matt today. I stop by my parents’ house afterwards, and they were in the midst of taking down Christmas decorations. I helped de-ornament their two trees and...

Cutting the Cord
I am contemplating getting rid of my cable TV service. Time Warner raised their rates again, and I am starting to feel that it really isn’t worth it. I cannot justify spending as much as I am for the limited number of channels I actually watch. I wrote down the shows/movies I watched this past week, and discovered I stick to only a couple of channels for 95% of my time in front of the...
