Rattling the Cage
I may have gotten a few people upset at me today at work, but such is the life. A major project going live in two weeks is hinging on a second project on which I am the lead. My portion of project two has reached the point where I can no longer move forward without another person finishing up their tasks. After talking with them this morning, I felt no sense of urgency from them to finish their parts. This afternoon I sent out a status update to project one’s team letting them know I had doubts project two would be completed in time. About 15 minutes later, the VP of the division overseeing both projects assured me that she would make sure everything was complete by 7am on Monday. I didn’t mean to throw anyone under the bus, but waiting until next week and then bringing up this issue was not an option. I gave the person mentioned above a chance to show they were engaged in the project, but when they didn’t I had to get others involved. The last thing I wanted to hear was that Project 1 failed because my project was behind schedule.
